Shmuel Zakai: “On Chanukah Eve, it is only proper that we all remember the meaning of true heroism:

To Heroism

On Chanukah Eve, it is only proper that we all remember the meaning of true heroism.

The true hero is not the soldier in the battlefield fulfilling his duty of defending his nation and birth land.

The true hero is he who has lost his most beloved one, yet chose to continue enduring and giving of himself towards his country and nation.

David Chatuel is the true hero of our generation and symbolizes more than anything – the eternity of the Jewish people.

Let us all - soldiers of Tzahal and the Jewish nation as a whole – hope to merit in obtaining the devotion and commitment which David had.

Every warrior should know consciously for whom and for what we are fighting.

Till my very last day, I shall remember Tali and her children.  Until the day I pass on, I’ll try make myself the very man David would’ve been proud to see.

In a warm spot close to the Katif settlement, a letter written by Shmuel Zakai who came to visit, appears in the visitors’ notebook of comments.

Soldiers on duty in the area arrive within 24 hours to warm their hearts and put their comments in the visitors’ notebook of comments.
